A brief history of Vinyl

The Discovery

virgin vinylA rubber scientist researching synthetic adhesives accidentally discovered polyvinyl chloride or PVC in the early 1920s. As the primary ingredient in vinyl, over 11 billion pounds of PVC resin are produced annually.

The Vinyl Boom

Manufacturers quickly found new markets for vinyl. During the 1950s and 1960s, additional methods to enhance vinyl's durability sparked the vinyl building product explosion. The construction industry now relies on vinyl for hundreds of applications from pipes to doors to decking.

Not all vinyl is created equal. When comparing products, we recommend you learn about the manufacturer's history, reputation for quality and manufacturing methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is your railing strong enough for my active family?

rail reinforcementsAbsolutely! Our railing is designed with your family's security in mind. All styles meet national safety standards.

Our wood deck hasn't weathered well. The nails are rusty and keep lifting up. What keeps your Deck planks secure?

clip-deckWith the patented 'Clip-Strip'® this problem is eliminated. These ingenious metal strips fasten the vinyl plank onto your deck or dock's wood, aluminium or steel substructure. With the hidden Clip-Strip system, there is nothing for you to worry about. The Clip-Strip is an exceptionally strong connector. Its unique design allows for the natural expansion and contraction characteristics of vinyl. Another advantage of our vinyl plank system is the elimination of the 'vinyl on vinyl' squeaking often found with two-piece vinyl deck products.

Will Royal Crown Vinyl change colour or turn yellow?

No. Colour problems generally result from insufficient sun protectant. Royal Crown Vinyl uses 12 parts per 100 of TiO2 to ensure its colour stability. That's 20% more than the industry standard. What's more it won't rot, chip, splinter or crack and never needs sealing or painting.

Will Brock Deck be safe when wet?

child on deckDefinitely, yes. Both our Dock and Deck planks have an excellent slip-resistant embossed surface. Testing has proven that they perform well in wet and dry conditions.

Can my children go barefoot?

All of our vinyl products protect bare feet and hands by staying cool to the touch and sliver-free.

Can Royal Crown Vinyl be a fire risk?

Extensive testing shows that vinyl poses no unusual health risks when burned. The vinyl is flame-resistant and self-extinguishing.

Is your vinyl environmentally safe?

Our vinyl is non-toxic and 100% recyclable. Our products eliminate the dangerous chemicals used to preserve, treat and clean wood fence and decks. At the same time this man-made product uses this industry by-products instead of endangered forests.
